TWO ARGENTINE TEAMS, ONE OF EACH GENDER, GALLAY-ZONTA AND MEHAMED-AZAAD AT THE SEMI-FINALS OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN GAMES

Gallay-Zonta among the best four teams of the South America Games

Manta, Ecuador, December 4, 2011 - Argentine beach volleyball is showing how important it became with two teams qualified for the 2nd. South American Games beach volleyball semi-finals. Ana Gallay-Virginia Zonta overcame Uruguay 2 team in quarter-finals while Ian Mehamed-Julián Azaad defeated Chile 1 team. Pablo Suárez-Santiago Etchegaray were very near of qualifying, too.

On the closing of the preliminar round, both Argentine Men Team celebrated, Suárez-Etchegary over the Paraguayan Godoy-Brizuela 2-0 (21-14, 21-16) while Mehamed and Azaad overcame the Ecuatorian Maldonado also 2-0 (21-17, 24-22).

As a result of that performances both teams qualified for Quarter-Finals.

At that point Gallay-Zonta played on the first quarter-final match defeating the Uruguayan Karina Cardozo-Eugenia Nieto 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) in a great match. Also for Semi-Finals qualified the two Brazilian teams of Barbara Seixas-Elize Maia and Liliane Simoes-Rebecca Barbosa and the other Uruguay team of Lucía Guigou-Fabiana Gómez. All quarter-final matches ended 2-0 for the winner teams.

On the men teams it was harder. Mehamed-Azaad played the most exciting match overcoming the best South American team of the Chilean Marco-Esteban Grimalt in a 2-1 match (20-22, 21-19, 19-17).

Suárez-Etchegaray played again against the Venezuelan team of Igor Hernández-Farid Mussa - that won one of the semi-final matches of the recent Pan-American Games in Guadalajara. As in Mexico it was a 2-1 match with the Venezuelan team winning once more 18-21, 21-19, 15-8.

The other semi-finalists are the Uruguayan Zanotta-Williman (2-0 over Ecuador 1) and the Brazilian Álvaro-Neilton (2-1 over Harley-Evandro).
