ARGENTINA, BRAZIL, COLOMBIA AND URUGUAY QUALIFIED FOR THE FINAL ROUND OF THE CONTINENTAL CUP

The Argentine team that obtained the second runner up place in Colombia

Guatapé, Colombia, December 11, 2011 – Colombia, even though was the organizing country of the Semi-final Round, is out of the Final Round of the Women Beach Volleyball Continental Cup that will fight for the vacancy for South America for the 2012 London Beach Volleyball Olympic Games. In the city of Guatape, after four days of competition where 40 very intensive matches took place, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela qualified for the final competition. Brazil finished with 31 points, followed by Argentina with 26 while Uruguay, Venezuela and Colombia ended all with 21 points but due to set ratio, the host team of Colombia finished on the fifth place eliminated of the next competition.

Once more the strong rains delayed the start of the matches on the fourth date as it happened on the before date. Brazil 1 (Camila Fonseca/Isabela Maio) closed their participation with an outstanding victory 2-1 over Venezuela 1 (Orquidea Vera/Frankelina Rodrigues) 19/21, 21/15, 21/14. The match started without problems showing a very strong Venezuelan team that surprised with their great digging but for the second set, Fonseca/Maio improved their performance and coming from behind defeated Venezuela 21/19 that fought until the very end. At the tie-break a Venezuela que batallo hasta el final. En el tie-break Brasil got a quick lead of 6 points maintaining it until the end of the set, finishing winning all their matches with this one ending 15/9.

For the experience player Camila Fonseca there was a great improvement on all the South American teams in the last five years. “Before only with our good serving we could win the matches without any effort but today we must concentrate very well to win. “We came here to win all the matches but face some strong teams and Argentina won one set and two Colombia” finished saying Camila, winner of 12 of the 13 South American she participated.

The fourth date showed very exciting matches that were very important for Colombia, Uruguay and Venezuela that fought point by point their chances in a three team – two vacancies opportunities. Until the very end each country looked at their luck but the match Uruguay 2 (Karina Cardozo/Maria Eugenia Nieto) v Venezuela 1 (Orquidea Vera/Frankelina Rodrigues), won by Venezuela 2-1 (21/13 - 30/32 - 17/15) closed the qualification with the set ratio of the three countries, leveled in points
