ARGENTINA WON THE SILVER MEDAL IN BOTH GENDERS AT THE SOUTH AMERICAN STOP HELD THIS WEEKEND IN URUGUAY

Ian Mehamed-Julián Azaad won the Silver Medal in Uruguay

Montevideo, Uruguay, February 25, 2012 - Brazil won once more the two gender Gold Medals, this time at the 5th stop of the South American Beach Volleyball Tour held in Pocitos beach in the city of Montevideo. In both cases they faced Argentine teams, that ended winning the Silver Medals. Ana Gallay-Virginia Zonta, best Argentine ranked women team and Ian Mehamed-Julián Azaad, were overcome 0-2 in the final matches played this afternoon.

Gallay-Zonta, team that is part of the Argentine Women delegation with chances of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London were defeated by Rebecca-Lucila 0-2 (18-21, 17-21). The other women Argentine team of Luciana Forguez-Gabriela Albano, won the Bronze Medal defeating Uruguay 2 (Nieto - Cardozo).

Mehamed-Azaad, semi-finalist of several Argentine National Beach Volleyball Tour stops and that are playing for the first time together during this official season overcame Uruguay 1 (Williman-Zanotta) 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 15-11) in one of the semi-final matches but were defeated on the final match by Thiago-Ferramenta 2-0 (21-16, 21-17).

In Quarter-Finals the Argentine team defeated the great Chilean Esteban-Marco Grimalt 3-0 (21-18, 26-28, 15-11).

The Siri brothers, also part of the Argentine delegation were eliminated on Saturday.
