ARGENTINA WILL HOST ITS 2012 FIVB WORLD LEAGUE INTER-CONTINENTAL MATCHES IN VILLA BALLESTER, BUENOS AIRES PROVINCE

Argentina will face as in last year's competition, Portugal

Buenos Aires, Argentina, March 13, 2012 - The Argentine Men Team that during this 2012 will participate for 13th time at the FIVB World League, the most important annual competition for men teams of the world, will play its home matches in Villa Ballester, Buenos Aires Province. The playing Formula, changed by the FIVB this year due to the Olympic Games includes one weekend in each of the four countries of each Pool. The team coached by Javier Weber will play mid June v Portugal, Bulgaria and Germany.

Until this edition, the playing formula included six inter-continental weekend matches, three in each countries, and playing only against one rival on each weekend with a total of 12 matches, six at home and six as visiting teams - with the light blue - white team playing each home weekend in different venues.

Argentina in Pool D will play in Frankfurt the first weekend, May 25th - 27th while all other three Pools will start the competition May 18th. Then, Argentina will be local at the Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia, Villa Ballester, June 15th - 17th playing all matches at 21.00 first against Bulgaria on Friday, June 15th, with Gerrmany, on Saturday, June 16th and v Portugal on Sunday, June 17th.

The third weekend Weber team will move to Guimaraes in Portugal, June 22nd - 24th while on the fourth the intercontinental round for them will find them in Sofia, Bulgaria, June 29th - July 1st.

Bulgaria capital city will host then the final Round with six teams (last edition was with eight). Bulgaria, that shares the pool with Argentina, the four pool's winners and the best second will fight for the 2012 crown.

Argentina participated in the last three consecutive editions at the Final Round. In the year 2009 it was its first sport qualification, finishing fifth. In the year 2010 as organizer, finished also fifth at Orfeo Superdomo in Córdoba at the Final 6 and the historical participation came in the 2011 edition finishing fourth in its first participation in semi-final stage in Poland.

Defending FIVB Volleyball World League champions Russia will clash with Serbia in the opening match of the 2012 tournament after the FIVB confirmed the dates and times for the 23rd edition of the competition.

Russia and Serbia will meet in Japan at 06.30 GMT on May 18, marking the start of the premier annual men’s volleyball tournament, which will run until July 8.

For the first time in the tournament‘s history, which dates back to 1990, all four teams in each pool will play at one host city on a weekend, with each country taking turns to host all four teams in their respective pools.

Like 2010, the Finals will feature six teams, with the four pool winners and the best runner-up joining Finals hosts Bulgaria in Sofia.

The opening weekend will feature 18 matches taking place in Canada and Italy as well as Japan while Pool D will be held in Germany a week later to accommodate qualification for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
