THE GRASS-ROOT 2013 FIVB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE PLAYED WITH 20 TEAMS WITH MORE VACANCIES ALSO FOR SOUTH AMERICA

Turkey organized last Girls' Youth Championship while Argentina did the same with the boys

Lausanne, Switzerland, March 19, 2012 - The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced this weekend that the next 2013 grass-root World Championships for both genders will host 20 teams, instead of 16 and therefore the 2012 South American Championship will have a quota of three countries in each category/gender.

This important decision for the growth and development of young volleyball was taken by the FIVB Board of Administration, in a meeting held during the weekend that also included the venues for such competitions. Turkey and the Czech Republic will organize the Men & Women Juniors Championships respectively while Mexico and Thailand will do the same with the Boys & Girls Youth's teams.

Each continent will have now the following quota: Europe (6), South American, Africa and NORCECA (3 each), Asia (4) and one left that will be fought between Africa and NORCECA.

The organizing country will use one of the places of its continent not affecting during this 2013 South America as noon of the competitions will take place in it.

Seventy matches will take place (it used to be 64) along the same 10 days as before. Some teams (16) will only play 8 matches each while the other four will fight to the title in seven matches.
