ARGENTINE TEAMS FINISHED FIFTH AT THE 6TH STOP OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOUR HELD IN PARAGUAY

Asunción, Paraguay, April 1, 2012 - This Sunday finished the 6th stop of the South American Beach Volleyball Tour with four Argentine teams - two per gender - that finished on the fifth place at the final ranking. For the Women teams the competition has an extra seasoning, their preparation for the Continental Cup where they will face Uruguay for a ticket to London 2012 Olympic Games next June.

All four teams played their Quarter-Final matches this Sunday. Ana Gallay-Virginia Zonta were defeated by the Uruguayan 2 team, Lucía Guigou-Fabiana Gómez, 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) while the second ranked team of Argentina Gabriela Albano-Luciana Forguez, were overcome by the strong Brazil 2 team, Shaylyn Bruno-Val Dos Santos also 2-0.

The two teams that overcame the Argentine teams qualified then for the final match at Club Puerto Sajonia. Shaylyn-Val won a new Gold Medal for Brazil overcoming the Uruguay team 2-0 (21-18, 21-16).

The Argentine Men teams also had to face Brazilian teams and two outstanding matches gave Brazil, the South American leaders victories. Ian Mehamed-Santiago Etchegaray played against the brothers Marcus-Guto ending 1-2 (19-21, 21-14, 12-15) while Lisandro Rouzic-Julián Azaad could not overcome also in a tie-breaker Billy-Bruno Schmidt 1-2 (12-21, 21-16 y 12-15).

The Brazilian teams faced each other at Semi-Finals but then Billy-Bruno in the final match gave Venezuela 1 their first Gold Medal of the season. Igor Hernández-Jesús Villafañe, experienced SWATCH-FIVB World Tour team broke the Brazilian only leadership in the season (they won all gold medals on the previous stops in both genders).
