LONDON 2012: SECOND MATCH FOR ARGENTINA FACING ITALY

Argentina started the Olympic Games with a celebration

London, Great Britain, July 30, 2012 - The path of the Argentine Seniors' Men Team at the London Olympic Games 2012 will go on this Tuesday with the second challenge in Pool A, again at Earls Court venue, where all the indoor volleyball matches take place, facing Italy again at 10.45 Argentine time. It is a match that reminds volleyball fans of historical moments at Olympic Volleyball.

The background says that Argentina and Italy are the teams that held the largest set in the history of Volleyball at the Olympic Games. In the year 2000, in Sydney, also in the second match of the preliminary round Italy won 3-0 after winning the first 40-38 over the light blue - white team.

Now, while Argentina comes from a great start in London with a 3-0 over Australia, Italy was defeated by Poland 3-1. Poland is one of the strongest teams of the World having won the 2012 FIVB World League recently.

In the year 2011 they faced each other twice, with a 1-1 result. The South American team won the first match 3-1 in the Final Round of the FIVB World League in Poland in their historical fourth place (best standing at the annual competitio) while when the year was ending the European team got revenge with the same result at the Japan World Cup.

When looking at the Olympic background, the last two participations of Argentina prior to London 2012, finished facing Italy. In Athens 2004, Italy won in Quarter-Finals while in Sydney 2000 (at the closing of the competition when both teams obtained their record) Italy won the Bronze Medal, leaving Argentina on the 4th place.
