A crowded stadium for a match that could not be finished

Azul, Argentina, August 16, 2012 - In a very heavy rainy evening with bad weather in the city of Azul, Buenos Aires province, the third friendly match between the Youth's teams of Argentina and Italy had to be stopped after the second set because of the moisture in the floor of Sagrada Familia, a stadium with a long volleyball history at the Argentine league, as direct consequence of the heavy storm when the match was 1-1 (25-16, 22-25) to preserve the health of all players. This Friday, again at 20.30 the local people will have the chance of watching an international match with future talented players of both countries.

In the first set, Joaquín Gallego blocking gave Argentina the lead. In his first match of the tour, German Johansen gave a wider advantage to the local team to put the set 11-6 and then, 15-7. Tiziano Mazzone from the bench helped Italy to shorten the difference but Johansen had a great evening and did not allow the visiting team to get very near. He put the set ball closed by a mistake of Sebastiano Milan.

Between Johansen and Lucas Barreda the locals got a quick lead 6-2 first and then 8-5 at the first TTO. With Edgar Vieira blocking the difference of five points put the score 11-6 while rain poured over the whole city. Bortolato ace recovered Italy's confidence and with Polo blocking they equal the set 17-17. From there on it was a very exciting set that finished with the European team victory.

At that moment and with the floor wet and the rain keeping very strong the decision was taken to stop the match by both coaches and the organizing team. While the players kept doing some exercises some raffles and show went on and the children had a chance to get pictures with their idols. The rain stopped the match but not the tour that will go on tomorrow evening at the same venue.
