U 23 PAN-AMERICAN CUP: BRAZIL WON THE CLASSICAL CLASH

Brazil can not be stopped by Argentina

LANGLEY, Canada, September 27, 2012 –Brazil defeated Argentina 3-0 (25-20, 31-29, 25-18) in a classic South American battle, to start the third day of activities at the Men’s U23 Pan American Cup. Alan Souza was the top scorer of the Brazilian team, with a total of 17 points while Henrique Batagim finished with 13. Gonzalo Lapera, tallied 9 for Argentina, followed by Luciano Zorneta with 8.

“We were so close in the second set, maybe we had tied the match and maybe and things had been different, but now we have to focus in Canada as our next rival while tomorrow have our day off,“ said Argentinean captain Gonzalo Quiroga.

“It was a good match, and despite the 3-0 score, it doesn’t speak for itself because it was difficult, all three sets were tough and we still are looking forward to improve in any way”, Thiago Veloso, the Brazilian captain stated.

“We tried to react on the second set, but unfortunately Brazil didn’t let us play as we wanted. Their attack affected us and attacking is always a key factor in volleyball,” Argentina’s head coach Fabian Muraco, mentioned.

Brazil’s coach Leonardo Carvalho, was satisfied with the result. “Matches against Argentina are always interested, I feel satisfied. But he most important thing is to play one day at a time, and in our case we are also focused in the South American qualification to the U21 World Championship,” he remarked.

Brazil will face Canada this Friday 28, while Argentina has a day off in the tournament due to Venezuela's last minute withdraw.
