Argentina was defeated vy the stronest team of the world, China

Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, July 30, 2013 — Mighty China, world No.1 and former three-time world champions , proved their class above Argentina to send the world No.13 packing in comfortable three sets 25-21 25-13 25-18 in their last Pool B encounter at the Liptapanlop Hall on Tuesday. Argentina finishing fifth on Pool B did not qualify for the next round and now will play for the 17th place of the competition.

China, silver medalists at the previous world meet in Turkey two years ago, badly needed a crucial win over Argentina to make sure the mission of making the cut for the last 16 teams can still be within their reach.

Fielding a well-organised roster which included the 199cm Yuan Xinyue, the team's tallest player, and terrific Ju Wanrong, China came up with an exceptional offensive mobility of Hu Mingyuan’s fantastic come-from-behind spikes and effective blocking by Yuan and Wang Yunlu for the victory in the first two sets 25-21 and 25-13.

China remained on course in the third set. As Argentina put on their brave fight to come close at 16-23, the determined Chinese had enough left in their tank. They marched on their sparkling form to win the thrilling set 25-18 and the match.

Dong Ruijun, head coach of China: “We played well. Everybody in our team came up with good form in this match. Our first target is to finish top four in Pool B and we accomplished it. That’s a good start in this tournament for my team, I think. If we have to think about our result in the next round, we have to fare well in our first round. We now accomplished our target and we have our sights set on the second round. We work step by step, anyway.”

Sun Haiping, team captain of China: “We played our level with good skills. We have gained experience from competing strong teams. I’m happy that we won this match.”

Guillerno Caceres, head coach of Argentina: “China played very well. We have to try more in future matches. We could not do that much in this match because China are the world’s best team. They are a perfect team we can’t match tactically.”

Sol Piccolo, team captain of Argentina: “China are very strong. We will try to develop our skills and form for future major competitions".
