UPCN stands among the best four teams of the World

Betim, Brazil, October 17, 2013 - UPCN San Juan Voley, the Argentine representative at the FIVB World Clubs Championship obtained this Thursday, facing the powerful and three seasons World Champion (undefeated in the whole competition until today), Trentino Diatec, from Italy, the most important victory of its life by 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 15-13) in the third date of the competition in Brazil and second match for the Argentine team, Now, this Friday, UPCN will try to finish first at their pool facing Kallek, after obtaining the qualification for semi-finals defeating the Italian team.

With ups and downs the match started showing intensity and power on both sides of the net. The Italian team reached the first TTO leading 6-8 but an ace of Theo and a blocking by Junior tied the set. Italy reacted and with the good performance of Birarelli and Sokolov after getting a three point advantage 12-15 won the set with UPCN not being able to shorten the difference.

UPCN got the lead on the second set and it was fought point by point but the San Juan Team was able to put the series 1-1 with Trentino's best players Ferreira and Sokolov and UPCN with Ramos to tie 23-23 but a serving mistake of Birarelli and a long spike of Lanza closed the set.

On the third set the Europeans got the lead but UPCN very concentrated slowly grew to reach the second TTO 16-14 and win the set.

On the fourth everything was at stake, Trentino trying to force a tie-breaker and UPCN wanting to close the set. The European made good use of the doubts and anxiety shown by the South American team and got an important leadership putting the series 2-2.

On the fifth and definitive set all the nerves showed up. After a lead of 3-6 for Italy, Armoa asked a TO to stop them aiming at their spike with good result to put the set 11-9 and tie 13-13. A serving mistake gave San Juan the first match ball and Junior with a great blocking closed the match and the Argentine celebration.
