Montichiari (Brescia), Italy — August 2, 2013. At PalaGeorge arena in Montichiari, Italy wins his first match of FIVB Volleyball World Gran Prix 2013 against Argentina. At PalaGeorge arena the team of Marco Mencarelli overcome for 3-0. Argentina comes back on field against Germany tomorrow Saturday, August 3rd., 2013 at 17.30 local time while Italy meets Kazakhstan at 20.30.

Top scorer was Diouf Valentina with 15 rallies while for Argentina Lucia Presco scored 15. Former Argentine player and now with Italy jersey, Carolina Costagrande scores 10 spikes and 3 blocks.

Italy controls the opening set (8-4). Good digs (88% positive) make easier settings from Signorile. Argentina lose some valuable points and Italy gets the 16-13. The last phase Mancarelli’s team grows in agressiveness thanks to a Guiggi ace (24-19). With overwelming Arrighetti, Italy gets the first set 25-21.

Argentina lose strenght and lose the set at 25-17 with a final block of Guiggi.

Marco Mencarelli Italy Coach: “I am satisfied because the team demostrated great concentration from the very beginning of the game. This let us to start well and to continue on a high satisfying level. Tomorrow we will try to take more advantage from our service”.

Noemi Signorile (Italy): “We played very well and we pushed from the beginnig to the end. There’s always something to improve but we are only at the start. The team is united, we know how much we worth but starting with a victory is always good“.

Guillermo Orduna Argentina Coach: “The lack of concentration in the match’s key moments it is crucial when you play Italy. There have been phases were the match was in perfect balace but when you play at certain levels you can’t give away anything and we have to learn to manage better the difficult times”.

Paula Nizetich (Argentina): “Italy has been better in the organisation and that made the difference. We got never in the game and Italy deserved to win. We can do better, the round-robin is very difficult with really good opponents”.
