Second consecutive victory for Argentina in Italy

Montichiari, Italy, August 4, 2013 - Argentina twice recovered a match deficit to beat Kazakhstan 3-2 (15-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-20, 15-9) on a tie-break in pool E on the first weekend of the 2013 World Grand Prix. It was an historical weekend for the Argentine team winning their second consecutive tie-breaker on the first weeekend of the most important premier competition organized by the International Volleyball Federation for National Seniors' Women Teams.

Lucia Fresco led the scoring with 24 points and victory meant Argentina left Italy with two wins after also recording a 3-2 win against Germany.

Argentina looked more relaxed than their match against Germany and started the match slowly, with difficulties in blocking defence.

Kazakhstan's setter, captain Korinna Ishimtseva, led her team through the first set and they took control of the match thanks to the attack of Tatyana Mudritskaya, who scored at 78%. Lack of concentration and mistakes from Argentina gave Kazakhstan the set 25-15.

Kazakhstan relaxed too much at the net in the second set and allowed Argentina to take a 16-9 lead. Kazaksthan's attack suffered with too many errors as a result of difficulty in receiving and lost the set 25-15 to level the match at 1-1.

Argentina started the third set in the ascendency took an early lead, but Kazakhstan improved their service and, thanks to three aces, made a comeback to win the set 25-23.

Following their reaction against Germany, where they also trailed 2-1, Argentina took control of the fourth set to win 25-20 and pushing the match into a tie break.

Argentina held their momentium into the tie-break fifth set, held a valuable 10-6 lead at the second technical timeout, and won the set 15-9 to complete a 3-2 win.

Despite being on the losing side, Kazakhstan's Tatyana Mudritskaya was the match's top scorer with 31 points.

Argentina head coach Orduna Guillermo was relieved with a second victory. "I'm very satisfied, because it wasn’t easy to win two matches in this Italian round-robin."

"We’ll work hard in the future, but I see my team keen to improve and concentrate [better]."

Argentina setter Yael Castiglione hopes to find the same passionate crowd in their next pool rounds.

"Playing with fans and an audience is always exciting and today we could enhance our performance. I hope the next pools, in the next weeks, we can find the same passion in our audience."
