Argentina celebrates its first match in Brazil

Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 6, 2013 - Argentina started with the right foot celebrating its first match at the 30th edition of the South American Seniors' Men Championship. The same will go on until next Saturday with five teams after the withdrawal of Venezuela due to flying problems.

In its first presentation Argentina overcame Chile 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-23) having Wednesday free to play all other three days in a round robin - all against all - only Pool. On Thursday the team coached by Javier Weber will face Paraguay.

Chile fought on the first set until the definitive points. The victory of Argentina left Chile without concentration and it took them until the third set, when they wanted to fight for a tie-break definition.

The local fans in Cabo Frio cheered Argentina mostly on the parity of the last set. The top scorer of the match was Sebastian Gevert from Chile scoring 11 rallies.

For the first time in history, this competition will qualify the best two ranked teams for the Polish World Championship 2014, with the third vacant place for the continent being played in Colombia next September.
