SOUTH AMERICAN CHAMP.: ARGENTINA AT THE POLISH WORLD CHAMP. 2014

Argentina stopped Colombian dream for next year's World Champ.

Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 9, 2013 - Argentina fullfilled her main goal at the 30th South American Championship obtaining the first berth for South America for the Polish World Championship 2014. Tomorrow, Saturday they will face Brazil for the title at 20.15. The team of Javier Weber, undefeated overcame this Friday Colombia 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-17) in its third consecutive victory.

The national team starting line-up included: Nicolas Uriarte as setter, Bruno Romanutti as opposite player, Pablo Crer and Sebastian Sole as middle players, Rodrigo Quiroga and Federico Pereyra as wing spikers and Alexis Gonzalez as libero. The only substitution included Agustin Ramonda.

Argentina started showing a great output with Pablo Crer serving very strong, Nicolas Uriarte digging, Sebastian Sole blocking and Federico Pereyra spiking to get a 5 point difference from the start. Colombia reacted but Argentina did not allow them to shorten the difference and two killing serves from Pereyra put the score 14-8. At the end of the set it was Uriarte that showed his utmost helped by Rodrigo Quiroga's first set ball and closing the set, Sole performance.

Another good start of Argentina on the second set and resting time of the Argentine coach Marcelo Gigante with the responsibility of the Colombian team. The 6-2 became 16-6 and 22-8 playing against a team that did not show any strong weapons, no reaction and not enough concentration to face Argentina ending 25-9.

The third set was somehow different with Colombia not doing so many unforced errors to take the first advantage 7-8. It was the right moment for the boys coached by Weber to take the lead and make good use of the nerves of the rivals and its unforced errors to close the set and the match undefeated.

Brazil will close Friday night looking forward for its third victory and also the qualification for Poland facing Chile. A victory will put the two undefeated teams fighting for the title this Saturday evening.
