Bronze Medal for the Argentine U 23 teamMedalla de bronce para la Selección Argentina

Mexico city, Mexico, August 24, 2013.- Agustín Ramonda scored 26 points and Ezequiel Palacios 22 for Argentina, that beat Puerto Rico 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-12) in the match for third place on Saturday. For the team coached by Alejandro Grossi it is the third time to win such an important award and mainly on their preparation path for the first ever U 23 World Championship to be held next October with Argentine both gender participation.

Along with Ramonda and Palacios, Gustavo Vaca registered 17 points while Ivan Postemsky scored 11 for the South American team that won the Bronze medar at Men’s 8th Pan-American Cup.

On the Puerto Rican side, Ezequiel Cruz closed with 24 points. Sequiel Sanchez scored 18, Captain Roberto Muniz closed with a total of 12 and Jean Carlos Ortiz with 11.

“Congratulations to Argentina for the Bronze medal, it was a great competition for them. For us, this tournament helped us to have an idea in how to work and improve,” said Puerto Rican Captain, Roberto Muñiz.

“It was a very nice match to see, with a lot of vibe,” stated Argentinean Captain Juan Ignacio Finoli. “I live it on and off the court after this injury. We are so happy with the result, despite our goal was not to advance to a semifinal or the last stage, it was to make the most points possible, but winning a medal is something great.”

“Like my captain said, we are in a transition and change process, this was our first tournament after seven months and we are in a reestructuration process in the national team, congratulations to Argentina. It was a great match,” Puerto Rican coach David Aleman said.

“I was at the 2010 Pan American Cup in Puerto Rico, they are in a good and interesting process, they are a team with high attack and with a lot of potential, I am happy for the result and for my players. We worked hard for five months and I am proud of their good game because between winning and losing there is a minimum of difference,” remarked Alejandro Grossi, coach of Argentina.
