Ica, Peru, September 22, 2013 - Argentina was stronger than the host team leaving Peru with a defeat on the last match of the Seniors' Women South American Championship in a very exciting and closed match enjoyed by over 7,000 fans that overcrowded the local Coliseo Cerrado de Ica. The match ended 3-1 (25-23; 17-25; 25-20; 25-23) and showed that when good volleyball is shown the continent fans answer.

Brazil conquered the title of the 30th South American Championship without losing a single set in the four matches played by the team coached by Jose Roberto Ghimaraes helped by the victory of Argentina over Peru. Brazil won the first ticket for the continent to participate of the World Championship 2014 and the Champions Cup in Japan this year while Argentina, Peru that also stood on the podium, together with Colombia and Venezuela will play later in the year in Argentina (October in San Juan) the Qualy for the second berth granted for South America for next years' competition.

Lucia Fresco once more shone showing her best output topping the score with 21 rallies while for Peru, Karla Ortiz scored 15.

Even though the audience put pressure on the visiting team, Argentina could make good use of the poor blocking of Peru and with its best spikers overcame a poor digging that little could do to win the first set. But Peru recovered its best performance to win the second set levelling the partial score 1-1. The girls coached by Guillermo Orduna stepped onto the field on the third set decided to win the match and showed an outstanding blocking as its best weapon. The happiness finished for the local fans when they saw that their team could not find answers to the good team level shown in the fourth set by the light blue - white team.

Guillermo Orduna, the Argentine coach showed proud when talking about his team. "I am very proud for the job and training of my team. To play here against the host team is very hard not only because Peru is a great team but they have an outstanding winning history. It was a great challenge and the team recovered very good from its only defeat against the champion, Brazil that finished undefeated".

Emilse Sosa, the Argentine captain is very happy with this victory. "the claws shown by the team today was very different. I love to play with all these girls and in a crowded stadium is outstanding"

For Vanesa Palacios, Peru's libero: "Today we did not show the level nor the concentration we had in the other matches, we gave our utmost but was not enough. now we have to prepare ourselves for the Continental Qualy".
