Moron, Argentina, September 228, 2013 - In the first date of the first four-team U 23 international friendly competition "On the Way to the World Championship", Argentina defeated Iran 3-2 (19-21, 21-17, 21-16, 20-22, 15-12) in the new U 23 format to sets to 21 rallies with 2 difference. Pablo Kukartsev was the top scorer with 17 points while Agustin Ramonda scored 11 and Ivan Pontemsky 10. For Iran Saman Faezi scored 14. Tomorrow, Sunday the "Moron Cup" will be played by the host team v Russia.

Today, Saturday, the first match was won by Russia that overcame Australia 3-0. This Sunday prior to the 20.00 hour match Argentina v Russia, at the Stadium Colegio San Jose de Moron, at 17.30 Iran v Australia will play for the Bronze Medal.

Argentina lost control at the end of the first set and was defeated by Iran 19-21. On the second set they concentrated from the beginning to the end and put the partial result 1-1. Again Vaca closed the third 21-16 but even though the host team dominated on the fourth, Iran fighting back forced a tie-breaker won by the light-blue team. Juan Finoli became a very important player on the fifth and definitive set.

In the first match Russia overcame Australia 3-0 (21-14, 21-16, 21-13). The top scorer for Russia was Oleg Krikun with 11 rallies while Leonid Shchadilov scored 10.

After this first four-team competition all four will move to Buenos Aires city where at Etchart stadium they will play October 1st - 2nd their second friendly competition prior to their World Championship.
