Mehamed-Azaad among the best four teams in Chile

Viña del Mar, Chile, February 8, 2014 - In both genders, Argentina qualified for semi-finals of the second stop of the South American Beach Volleyball Tour being held in Viña del Mar. Ana Gallay-Georgina Klug and Ian Mehamed-Julian Azaad overcame in quarter-finals their rivals at the end of the first day of the Main Draw and now look forward for a place at the Podium.

Gallay-Klug had an outstanding first round, defeating in Quarter-Finals Venezuela II (Yetsi Lezama-Milagros Hernandez) the team that eliminated in the preliminary round the other Argentine pair, Julieta Puntin-Cecilia Peralta. By 2-0 (21-12, 21-16) the Argentine pair stand among the best four of the competition.

Now, Gallay-Klug will face in Semi-Finals Lucia Guigou-Eugenia Nieto, the top Uruguayan team that coming from behind won their Quarter-Final match v the Colombian sisters, Galindo. On the other side, the other Semi-Final will see Brazil (Thais-Fabiola) facing Venezuela (Norisbeth Agudo-Gabriela Brito).

On the men's side, Mehamed-Azaad, after defeating in first round final match Peru 2-0, overcame the second ranked Brazilian pair (Marcio-Saymon) in a very exciting match in Quarter-Finals 2-0 (21-13, 21-17). Now on their way to the Gold Medal they will face the top ranked Uruguayan Team (Renzo Cairus-Nicolas Zanotta) while Chile (Grimalt cousins) will face Brazil (Allyson-Gustavo) in the other semi-final match.

The other Argentine men's team, Facundo Del Coto-Pablo Bianchi finished their participation in the competition with a victory over Colombia (Yhan Cuesta-Diego Corredor but could not qualify for the second round. They had won the Silver Medal in the first stop of the South American Tour in Macae, Brazil.
