Second consecutive Gold Medal for Gallay-Klug in the season

Montevideo, Uruguay, February 16, 2014. Once more, Ana Gallay-Georgina Klug put Argentina on top of a podium at a beach volleyball competition in South American. The best Argentine ranked team won the Gold Medal in the 3rd. Stop of the South American Tour in Pocitos, Montevideo obtaining an outstanding victory over the Brazilian Fernanda Berti-Elize Maia in the final match. Ian Mehamed-Julian Azaad meanwhile finished fourth on the men’s competition.

At the final date, the Argentine girls obtained two dazzling victories over Brazil. First, in semi-finals they faced the second runner-up from Brazil, Carol Horta-Neide Sabino and coming from behind they got an important tie-breaker victory 2-1 (17-21, 23-21, 15-12) in a much tied match. On the other semi-final match, Fernanda-Elize from Brazil stopped the host team, Lucia Guigou-Fabiana Gomez 2-0.

The final match faced the same rivals as on semi-final in the first stop of the season in Macae, Brazil when the local team obtained the ticket for the final match. This time Gallay-Klug after winning a very tied set 30-28 won confidence to finish the match by a clear 21-17 and win the Gold Medal for second consecutive stop, after Viña del Mar, Chile.

At the men’s competition, Mehamed-Azzad had a very similar semi-final but the other way. They faced also the Brazilian Thiago-Oscar winning the very tied first set and losing the other two 1-2 (26-24, 19-21, 8-15).

At the Bronze duel, the Argentine pair met once more the Brazilian pair Bruno-Hevaldo, rivals on the first round and that lost their semi-final match facing the Chilean cousins Marco-Esteban Grimalt. Another tie-breaker gave the victory to the Brazilians 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 15-8).
