Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, January 23, 2014 — It is no exaggeration to say that it was one of the best and most exciting final matches in the history of the South American volleyball. On Sunday night, Sada Cruzeiro beat UPCN 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 18-16) in an epic showdown in Belo Horizonte to win the title at the ArcelorMittal Men's South American Club Championship 2014. It was the second time the team has won the competition since 2012. The two teams have qualified to take part in the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship to be held in Betim from May 6 to 11.

The grand final of the Arcelor Mittal Men's South American Club Championship 2014 had all the makings of a spectacular game. In the first set, with the support of their passionate fans, Sada Cruzeiro gradually gained ground but the Argentines held them back with their defense to tie the game at 23 points. With the audience in a frenzy UPCN took the tie-break and the first set.

"We started the game well, but then we floundered a bit and lost the first set” said Marcelo Mendez (Argentine, coach of the Brazil team. “From there, we grew in the match and with our service the team began to show his potential. We rely on the help of our fans, who were the extra player on the court and we reached the title."

Voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Demian Gonzalez from the UPCN congratulated Sada Cruzeiro on their performance. UPCN obtained the Silver Medal plus three individual awards at the South American Clubs Men's Championship 2014 held in Belo Horizonte. Added to Damian Gonzalez, as best setter of the competition (in the year 2013 was chosen as the MVP); Sebastian Garrocq, once more was the best libero while Martin Ramos won the award to the best middle player.

"To come here and play as equals against Sada Cruzeiro is a very great achievement,” he said. “We made a fantastic start in the final, against a team that has international stars. It's like playing on equal terms against Barcelona or Real Madrid in soccer. The UPCN is to be congratulated for what we showed in the competition and we are very happy to have won a place at the next World Championship,” said Gonzalez.

Hosts of the tournament for the second consecutive year, Vivo Minas finished in third place in the continental competition with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-16) win over Boca Juniors / Rio Uruguay Seguros.
