Santiago, Chile, March 13, 2014 - For the first time in its history Argentina won a Gold Medal at the Women's Volleyball Competition at the South American Games. This Wednesday, in the last day of the event in the city of Santiago, the team coached by Guillermo Orduna obtained an unexpected and surprised award finishing as the premier team among the six competing for the continent. The Argentine Women's Volleyball gave Argentina its 25th Gold Medal in Chile.

It was a very successful day for Argentina because it was necessary a very special result in the last date matches for Argentina to win the Gold Medal and it happened when in the previous match, the host team of Chile defeated Brazil 3-1 that arrived to this last match without having lost any matches and only two sets v Argentina.

In what was the last match of the Women's Volleyball competition, Argentina stepped onto the field looking forward to the victory in three or four sets v Colombia, something that would unlock the triple draw in favour of the light blue - white team. Winning the match 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-10) left the Argentine Women's on top of the Pool in better position than Chile and Brazil thanks to the set ratio (all three finished with a record of win-loss 4-1) and therefore winning the Gold Medal.

"We are very happy, something we came looking for. We only lost one match v Brazil by tie-break but we were the best team of the competition" expressed Orduna after finishing the match v Colombia.

With this result Argentina left the 2010 South American title holder, Brazil (in Medellin, Colombia) without the crown. At that edition Argentina had won the Silver Medal.
