Argentina will face Puerto Rico for the Bronze Medal

Mexico DF, Mexico, June 19, 2014 - The Argentine Seniors' Women "Las Panteras" were overcome in one of the semi-final matches of the 13th Pan-American Cup by the strong Dominican Republic 0-3 (21-25, 18-25, 24-26). Even though the set figures are very tied, the Caribean country showed its best and will face USA for the Gold Medal. Meanwhile the light blue - white team coached by Guillermo Orduna will face Puerto Rico this Thursday at 20.00 (Argentine time - 18.00 in Mexico) for the Bronze Medal.

It is not the first time that Dominican Republic stops Argentina at the Pan-American Cup in Semi-Finals. Last season for example, just one year ago, another 0-3 left Argentina out of the crown. But Argentina's balance on this competition is more than positive, first they qualified for fifth consecutive year to participate at the World Grand Prix 2015, then they finish as top South American Country and even though if they do not step onto the Podium once more they are already one of the best four teams of all America (South American and Norceca participate of this event).

This time the girls coached by Marcos Kwiek combined the outstanding top scorer Bethania De La Cruz and the opposite Gina Mambru, both scoring 14 rallies each to celebrate the victory. The middle player Marianne Fersola scored 6 blocking and a total of 10 rallies, the same quantity as the top Argentine player, the middle player Emilce Sosa.

The match showed at times great performance of both teams with parity. Argentina nearly lead most of the third set but Dominican Republic at the end put its utmost ending with the best score in all output. Dominican Republic scored 40 wing spikes while Las Panteras scored only 30.

Today, Thursday the competition will come to its end. For Argentina a victory would mean the third Bronze Medal facing Puerto Rico that was also overcome by USA 0-3.
