Argentina recovered from the first friendly in Mar del Plata


Mar del Plata, Argentina, August 5, 2014 - The Argentine Seniors' won the second friendly match towards the World Championship to be held in Poland starting end of the month, v Canada this Tuesday at Mar del Plata sport centre. The team coached by Julio Velasco overcame the visiting team 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19) and the series stands 1-1 now. Pablo Crer was the top scorer of the host team with 18 rallies followed by Rodrigo Quiroga with 14. Canada's Gavin Schmitt, as yesterday on the first match, won 21 points.

This Wednesday they will play the third match at 21.15 live broadcast by TyC Sports at the same venue to move afterwards to Buenos Aires city.

Argentine did not show a good performance at the beginning without being able to stop the Canadian blocking that added 5 points but from the second set onwards, the home team became stronger adding a total of 13 points blocking (5,3,5) with an outstanding output of Crer well sparred by De Cecco.

Argentina also improved spiking finishing with 45 per cent efficiency against 41 per cent of Canada. The visiting team added in the first set 62 per cent and then, 33%, 44% and 31% while Argentina even though with 53% losing the first set, won the second with 38%, the third with 52% and the fourth and final with 42% respectively.

Argentina will keep training hard and prior to Poland will travel first to Brazil and then face Russia to adjust their performance.
