Mar del Plata, Argentina, August 5, 2014 - The Argentine Seniors' Men Team played its first friendly match towards the Polish World Championship 2014 at the Mar del Plata Sport Centre facing Canada, that won in a tie-breaker in a match with ups and downs. The final score was 2-3 (18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21,11-15). This Tuesday they will face each other in the second match at 19.00 with the third match - live broadcast again by TyC Sports on Wednesday at 21.15. The top scorers were Schmitt with 28 rallies for the visiting team and Quiroga with 18 for Argentina.

The first two sets showed parity up to 10-10 when the Canadian opposite player Schmitt took the leadership serving and spiking to win 18-25 and 21-25, with 13 rallies of Schmitt and 7 of Sole on the other side of the net.

On the third set the parity reached 8-10 with Canada showing an outstanding performance but with De Cecco and Gonzalez in the field replacing Uriarte and Darraidou and Ocampo instead of Filardi, gave Argentina the chance to level the set 16-16 and thereafter get the lead that would give them the first set victory to put the series 1-2.

Argentina went to the first TTO of the third set with one point advantage but then got a five point leadership 15-10 to win the third set and with confidence the fourth levelling the series 2-2 and forcing a tie-breaker. Then at the fifth and definitive set, Argentina paid a high price with several non-forced errors giving Canada a four point advantage that could never shorten to close the set 11-15.

The friendlies between Argentina and Canada will go on all week until next Monday when Argentina travels to Brazil to start the second series of friendlies (the third one will be short prior to the World Championship) v Russia.
