Nanjing, China, August 27, 2014 - Argentine beach volleyball keeps growing steadily and today it just moved forward a giant step at the Youth Olympic Games held in the city of Nanjing, with Santiago Aulisi-Leandro Aveiro [9], winning the Bronze Medal defeating Määttänen-Siren FIN [12] 2-1 (21-10, 12-21, 15-12) in a match with many ups and downs.

Therefore, Mar del Plata (Buenos Aires province) Aulisi and Tunuyan (Mendoza) Aveiro became part of Argentine Sport history, as four years ago, the indoor Junior Argentine Team at the previous and first edition of the Youth's Olympic Games won in Singapuore 2010 the Silver Medal.

“I am very happy” said Aveiro as Argentina claimed it’s first-ever FIVB medal at an event for players under the age of 19. “This is a great triumph”. “We lost in the semi-final match, and then we got it together tonight” For Aulisi, it was a “really hard match. After losing in the semi-final match, we concentrated more this evening and won this match by playing point-by-point”.

For Siren, “it is such a shame we lost. We made bad mistakes, especially in the first set. In the second set, we changed sides and played better. This has been a great experience. A fourth is still a really good result.”

In semi-final the Argentine pair was very near of becoming one of the finalists for the Gold Medal v the Venezuelan Tigrito-Hernandez that won in a very fought and equal match 0-2 (18-21, 19-21).

This has been a long run result for Argentina working during years boosted by the Argentine Volleyball Federation (FeVA) now impulse by its President, Juan Antonio Gutierrez with the unquestionable continuous support of the ENARD and the Argentine Olympic Committee together with the National Sport Secretariat. The Bronze Medal won by Aulisi-Aveiro and the fifth place obtained by the Argentine girls, Camila Hiruela and Irene Verasio are the sport result headed by the FeVA, coached by Pablo Bernardi, the World Champions Mariano Baracetti and Martin Conde as part of the coaching team, the coach Diego Ramírez and the Manager of the Argentine Beach Volleyball Teams Andres Soriano together with the official in charge, Jose Maria Cuadrillero.
