CLUE VICTORY OF ARGENTINA OVER CANADA 3-2 AT FIVB WORLD LEAGUE

Buenos Aires, Argentina, June 28, 2015 - In an incredible come back, the Argentine Seniors' Men Team coached by Julio Velasco overcame also in the second match of the fifth weekend of the Intercontinental Round of the FIVB World League 2015, and in its last match at home Canada 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 27-25, 15-6) closing with an outstanding celebration in La Matanza Juan Domingo Peron Stadium after two match balls for Canada in the fourth set and keeping alive its chances to qualify for the Final Four Group 2 that will take place in Bulgaria after the first phase ends.

With Canada's 12th and last match scoring a total of 23 points while Argentina now travels for the sixth and last weekend to play in Europe v Bulgaria with 18 points, nothing is closed as Bulgaria that stands third as host team already qualified for the Final Four and there are 6 points at stake and only a five point difference between Canada and Argentina.

The top scorers of the match were for the visiting team Adam Schouten with 25 points ( a whole set) and Facundo Conde with 15. The main skill differences were Spikes (48-60) and Opponent Errors with Argentina winning 44 points while Canada only 20.

Now, Argentina depends on itself to qualify for the Final Four as Canada finished its participation. Not only that, on this fifth weekend for the first time in this FIVB World League edition, Argentina won both matches of the weekend. Conte and Rodrigo Quiroga participated for the first time during these matches being clue players on the victories.

Head-to-head:

· Argentina won 3-1 on June 26th, recording their second successive victory over Canada. Argentina had beaten Canada 3-2 on 6 June after having lost 3-0 the day before.

· This marked the first time in 11 World League matches Canada failed to win at least two sets. The last team to keep Canada from wining at least two sets was Australia in 2014 (3-1).

· Steven Marshall has been Canada's top scorer in each of the last two meetings with Argentina scoring 20 and 15 points respectively.

· Argentina have now won their last two matches against NORECA opposition beating Cuba (13 June) and Canada (26 June). This marks the first time since 2000 Argentina record back-to-back wins over NORECA opposition (back then two successive wins over Canada.

Argentina

· Argentina have recorded one win and one defeat in each of their last five double match-ups, a streak that started a year ago with a win and a defeat against France on 27-29 June 2014.

· The last time Argentina won twice in one weekend was against Germany on 20 and 21 June 2014.

· Argentina have now won four successive matches in Buenos Aires.

Canada

· Canada will qualify for the next round if they win this second match against Argentina.

· Canada have won already 27 sets this World League, most of all teams in the competition (France are also on 27).

· Canada have won already six World League matches, as many as last season and their second most of all time. They now only chase their total from 2013, when they won nine World League matches.
