ARGENTINE MEN QUALIFIED FOR QUARTER-FINALS AT THE PANAM 2015

Toronto, Canada, July 21, 2015 - Even though Argentina was overcome by Brazil, that celebrated earning a direct ticket to the semi-finals in the indoor volleyball men's tournament of the Pan-American Games at Toronto Exhibition Centre this Tuesday, winning 3-0 (29-27, 25-21, 25-22) at the third match of the Preliminary Round, the team coached by Julio Velasco must wait now for other results to know their rival at Quarter-Finals (this Friday). Jose Luis Gonzalez topped Argentine scoring 23 tallies but was not enough to win.

The 3-0 victory boosted Brazil to an insurmountable 12 points in Pool A to go with their 2-1 win-loss record. Argentina totaled 9 points also with a 2-1 mark good for second place.

Renan Buiatti led Brazil with 17 points, followed by Douglas Souza and Mauricio Silva who contributed 13 and 12 points in the victory.


Argentina’s Jose Luis Gonzalez had a match-high 23 points in the losing effort while Facundo Conte was stopped in 13 tallies.

Brazil commanded the blocking category 9-5 with both teams scoring two aces apiece. Argentina committed 23 errors, nine more than Brazil.

Leonaldo Roberley, coach of Brazil: “It was a good game against a very strong team. We have played well focused and executed our plays. In the third set we lost some of our balance but then we pressed our opponents with our serves and good blocking.”
