Toronto, Canada, July 26, 2015 – After an endless 20 years period, Argentina recovered the Gold Medal at the Pan-American Games by a thrilling and heart-breaker tie-breaker facing in the final match their “classical” South American rival, Brazil 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-8). Facundo Conte topped the score with 23 points.

The Indoor Volleyball Gold Medal match, closed the Pan-American Games 2015, and now all look forward to the Olympic Games Rio 2016. After a terrific 25-23 first set for the team coached by Julio Velasco, Argentina lost concentration and Brazil became once more the killing machine of any rival. Winning the second and third sets, they lead on the fourth’s nearly winning the title but Argentina found once more the same rhythm and claws of the first set and coming from behind got the first point lead 24-23 to close it forcing the tie-breaker, that at the end found Brazil erratic and Argentine showing its utmost and amazing performance.

Julio Velasco first words, after jumping and celebrating with the whole coaching staff expressed: “After 30 years outside Argentina I feel I could give some back to my country’s volleyball. It is great for this young group of players and now we are ready for Rio 2016”.

Argentina from the start showed a virtiginous performance showing their best weapons, killing serves and very tidy blocking/digging, that allowed them to get a 5 point advantage 8-3. Brazil only found answers on Renan Buiatti performance but the light blue - white team kept growing over Facundo Conte and Luciano De Cecco skills to the 2nd. TTO 16-13.

Renan kept showing his utmost but Argentina on the 2nd set first TTO lead 8-7 but thereafter the score changed by the second 15-16. Murilo Radke confidence on Renan gave its results and also Argentina started making non-forced errors to tie the series.

Argentina could not stop Brazil even though from the bench were included Nicolas Uriarte, Pablo Crer and Martin Ramos. Brazil found it very easy to get an important lead 9-16 with Argentina being unable to return to the match. Brazil confidence kept growing and got a quick lead 5-11 on the fourth set with the gold medal "nearly" in their pockets but Volleyball stops when the last ball touches the floor and Argentina's Sole blocking and good digging put the set 12-13 when Brazil got a red card (Mauricio) when the fight started point-after-point with Brazil leading always by one until an ace of Martin Ramos gave Argentina the lead 24-23 and the outstanding blocking of Luciano Zornetta (from the bench) closed the set 25-23.

The tie-break was another history. Argentina lead 3-0 and then 6-2 to chance side 8-5. Brazil seemed to be lost not finding how to stop Argentina digging and defense. De Cecco scored tally 12 (v 6), Conte found the way to score the first match ball and Murilo mistake serving started an incredible celebration in Toronto.
