Argentina will play its first match v Russia

Lima, Peru, August 6, 2015 - This Friday, the Argentine U 18 Girls' Team, Las Panteritas, coached by Mauro Silvestre will make their debut at the World Championship facing Russia at 19.00 in a great challenge. Prior to the competition and from Lima, Silvestre makes a balance on the work and their dream.

- What is your target for this U 18 Girls' World Championship?

- Even though what is important is the results of the matches, our goal is that the team develops a high level of competition. That the team plays to its utmost facing strong powerful teams as we have to face in the Preliminary Round like Russia, USA, Dominican Republic and Belgium. We do not 'want' as target a ranking because if we do not reach it then in our country they say that "we failed" and no one on our delegating thinks that. On the contrary the fact that they qualify and stand among the best 20 teams of the World is already a great fulfilment. Not all teams can play a world championship.

- What are your thoughts on the rivals of this Preliminary Round?

- No doubt, with Pool D are the hardest of all four as most of their teams are favourite to win the World Championship. In our pool stand the first and 3rd ranked European Teams: Russia and Belgium and the first and second belonging to NORCECA, USA and Dominican Republic so everyone thinks that our team is the weakest. Therefore we must give the utmost at all moments to obtain the development level we want, knowing that all four rivals have very different ways of playing and their skills are totally different.

- How is your team to participate at the World Championship?

- The team is confident as they worked very hard to be on good shape, they prepared themselves facing on the final path very important rivals as Turkey and Italy added to all the prior competition and all concentrations. We are a developing team and knowing of our disadvantages against the power and hight of all other players, we slowly but steadily are preparing ourselves to stand at the same level they do.

- Personally, what does it mean for you to lead this team in this competition?

- As I always mention, the Argentine Las Panteritas, WAS, IS AND WILL BE the greatest! When one sleeps and dreams there are to options: one gets up and goes after the dream or one keeps dreaming. I chose the first option and look for my dream. It is the second World Championship for me with a light blue - white team and I found out that it is not the World Championship one enjoys but all the preparation to reach it, the fact to be part of it having very clear that one reaches this competition thanks to players, their and mine family, coaches, Friends, clubs, cities from all over the country, officials and all those that in one or another way help that this dream becomes true and that can never be forgotten.
