ARGENTINA OUTCLASS CANADA TO MOVE INTO THE FINAL OF THE PAN-AMERICAN CUP

Mexico DF, Mexico, May 26, 2016 - In an exceptional Semifinal match of the 11th Men's Senior Pan-American Cup, the Argentine U 23 and Junior team overcame Canada 3-1 (34-32, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22) waiting now for the winner between the host team of Mexico and Cuba in the other Semifinal match to play for the Gold Medal this Thursday at 22.00. Bruno Lima and Brian Melgarejo, topped the score with 19 and 18 tallies respectively.

Canada started leading in more than one set but Argentina never stopped fighting from behind and with its best output and claws showed superiority at the definitive points. In the first set, both teams got the lead to close a very fought and tied performance on both sides of the net. Canada score an important advantage on the 2nd TTO 12-16 but Lima and Melgarejo put the team on their shoulders and Argentina without mistakes won 34-32.

On the second set it was the light blue - white team that got the first TTO lead 8-4 but Canada serving shortened the difference to level 24-24 and then closed it 24-26.

Again on the third set, Argentina got a 3 point advantage 9-6 and the difference became a 5 point lead on the second TTO 16-11 with good blocking and spiking. Canada improved their output but never got the lead and the set closed 25-22, same score as the fourth and closing set.

Argentina has been winning medals in the last editions and in the year 2015 started an outstanding international season that ended with the qualification for the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016 and the fifth place at the Japan World Cup.
