Another historic day for the Argentina Women's team that this Thursday beat the Chinese Olympic champion by 3-2 (25-6, 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13). Yamila Nizetich was the national top scorer with 18 points, followed by Elina Rodriguez and Emilce Sosa, authors of 17 and 16 points respectively. With this victory the Panthers qualified to semifinals of the prestigious tournament disputed in Switzerland and this Friday they will close the group phase against home team.

The team led by Guillermo Orduna had a great start with Lucia Fresco unstoppable and got the first set after a good collective production. However, China reinforced its serve and began to damage the national reception, that lowered its level and lost the dominance of the game. This way, with the pair Wang Yuanyuan and Gong Xiangyu (20 and 19 points), the Olympic champions rebounded on the scoreboard and advanced 2-1.

The Panthers' improvement in the third quarter continued in the fourth, where Argentina struck with his sharp block and leaned on captain Nizetich to look for the tie break. China recovered the leadership and seemed to liquidate the game, but the Argentines worked well in attack and with important Sosa in the closure, they reached the tie break. In the fifth, a good offensive task of Rodriguez made it easier to take off and although the Asians moved closer, Argentina struggled and completed a historic win after a point from Rodriguez, 15-13.

This Friday Argentina will play it last game on the group phase against Switzerland.
