At the closing of the Montreux Volley Masters, Argentina failed to win the Olympic champion China and finished fourth in their first incursion in this prestigious international preparatory contest for the FIVB Grand Prix. The Panthers, who did a very good tournament with a renewed team compared to the one that played the Olympics last season, played as equals against the Asian power, but fell with partials of 21-25, 12-25, 25-20 and 19-25. Yamila Nizetich was the top scorer with 23 points.

The development of the game was similar in block, attack and serve, but it was the level of errors of the Argentines that ended up tilting the balance in favor of the Asians, whom the Panthers had defeated in an exciting 3-2 in the group stage. With the objective of continuing preparing a squad with several new faces, the next step in the season for Guillermo Orduna's team will be the Pan-American Cup from June 17 to 25 in Peru.

The parity of the first set was based on a good work in Argentine block to contain the greater Chinese precision in attack. Nevertheless, the Panthers increased their margin of error in the closure while China was convincing and ended 25-21. In the second, Argentina played point to point in the beginning, but soon started to yield to the Asian service, that annoyed the reception and completed its work with an impassable block. The Chinese played without error, while the Panthers were charged of them and couldn't do anything against its rival efficiency (25-12).

Argentina substantially lowered their level of error in the next stretch of the game and took advantage of the good performances of Nizetich and Rodriguez to forge and sustain the advantage on the scoreboard. The Panthers didn't miss their chance and handled the set's threads to 25-20. In the fourth, the national team remained strong, but China recovered with it goalscorers Gong and Gao, which resulted in a fight point to point until mid of the partial. There, after the national advantage in the second break, the reappearance of the mistakes in the Panthers and a better management of the game by the Asians ended the game, 19-25.
