In a big match at a full stadium in Cañete, Peru defeated Argentina 3-2 with partials of 20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19 and 15-9 in the quarterfinals of the Pan-American Cup. With this result, the Panthers will play from fifth to eighth place and will face Colombia this Saturday at 7pm.

Argentina started on a good shape and reached the technical time outs of the first set 8-3 and 16-8 against an overcome Peruvian team. Nizetich and Rodriguez were the most important in attack and although on closing Peru improved from its serve, Argentina solved it 25-20.

In the second Leyva got more protagonism and Peru produced more problems in the Argentine reception to take off 8-6 and 12-7. In spite of an Argentine improvement, home team pressed with its service again to reach the second technical time out by 16-11. From Nizetich and Aispurua's hands, the Panthers recovered until 21-23, but Peru broke the parity and Leyva closed it 25-21.

For the third chapter Acosta was in the starting line up replacing Fresco and the game was point-to-point. Neverthless, the team led by Guillermo Orduna was more regular and recovered forcefully to take off 16-14 and 20-16. In the closure, Acosta gave the set ball to her team and Rodriguez solved the set 25-20.

In the fourth set, the Panthers reached the first time out by 8-5, but Peru grew in counterattack and in a great passage managed to turn the scoreboard 11-9. With more effectiveness in attack, the locals continued in better level and stretched the difference to 16-12. In the outcome of the set, Peru maintained that advantage and with Leyva as a figure led the quarter-final duel to the tie break (25-19).

Well in serve and block, Peru escaped 4-0 and 7-1 before an Argentine team that didn't find the way to stop them. Argentina improved in the 5-8 and even had the chance of a bigger discount, but Leyva gave tranquility to the locals resolving in the net (10-5). Leyva herself was unstoppable for the 13-8 and a rival error sealed the 15-9 for the Peruvian celebration.
