The Argentine Volleyball Federation received on Monday an official notification confirming the participation of its two national teams in the traditional Japan 2019 World Cup, a tournament that takes place every 4 years. The official FIVB letter confirms the news received by Juan Antonio Gutiérrez as President of the FIVB Sporting Events Council in Lausanne, Switzerland, last week.

The 2019 World Cup will have 12 teams per branch that include the organizer, the last World Champion (Serbia in the women branch and Poland in the male one) and the two best teams of each continental confederation according to the 2019 ranking. Argentina also played in both branches (8th place for the women and 5th for the men) in the 2015 edition.

In the female branch the participants will be Japan (organizer), Serbia (World Champion), Argentina and Brazil (CSV), the United States and the Dominican Republic (NORCECA), China and Korea (Asia), Cameroon and Kenya (Africa), Russia and the Netherlands (Europe). The tournament will be held from September 14 to 29.

For the men's competition, Japan remains as organizer, Poland (World Champion), Argentina and Brazil (CSV), the United States and Canada (NORCECA), Italy and Russia (Europe), Iran and Australia (Asia) and Egypt and Tunisia (Africa). The contest, in this case, will be played from October 1 to 15, 2019.

The competition format will be as in the last editions, in a single round robin format in both branches. For Hernán Ferraro and Marcelo Méndez´s teams will be competitions of very high level against many of the best teams of the world. The World Cup of Japan will no longer grant a place for the Olympic Games, in this case for the XXXII Tokyo Olympic Games from July 24 to August 9, 2020.

For Tokyo, which will again have 12 teams by branch, the qualification will be as follows:

Six (6) teams through the International Olympic Qualifiers (IOQT) to be played in August 2019.

The Argentine national teams, distributed according to the world ranking -Japan already qualified as organizer- will play in the women's case against the United States, Bulgaria and Kazakhstan, from 2 to 4 with venue to be confirmed. In the male branch the rivals will be Canada, Finland and the local China from 9 to 11.

The last opportunity will be in January 2020 with the continental Olympic qualifiers that will bring the last five berths for the champions of each tournament, which will be added to the 6 teams of the previous instance (11 in total) plus Japan, to total 12 per branch.
