The Argentinean anthem sounded loud in Arica, Chile, home of the South American U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, 1st of the three qualifying stages to the World Championship in Thailand. The male duo of Mauro Zelayeta and Bautista Amieva, bronze in the YOG Buenos Aires 2018, won the title against Rafael and Renato from Brazil in the big final. For its part, the female duo of Brenda Churin and Victoria Pozzo fell in the final against Brazilians Victoria and Thamela.

The five countries that obtain the most points at the end of the three events will guarantee a place in the World Championship. The next stops will be in Lima (Peru), from April 5 to 7, and in Asuncion (Paraguay), on April 13 and 14.

Brazilians Victoria and Thamela had a perfect campaign beating on the six games they played in Chile. In the definition they won by 2-0 (21/14, 21/12) over Argentina's Brenda Churin and Victoria Pozzo, guaranteeing 200 points to Brazil and 180 points for Argentina in the overall ranking. The bronze went to the Peruvian pair of Lisbeth Allcca and Medalyn Mendoza who beat the Bolivian Canedo/Nicole (21/17, 21/16) to win 160 points.

In the men side, the Argentines Zelayeta and Amieva finished the tournament undefeated. The bronze team at the YOG Buenos Aires 2018 won 2-1 in the final (17-21, 21-15, 15-13) and scored 200 points of great importance. For the third place, the Uruguayan Esteban Bailón and Nicolas Bertrán beat the Ecuador duo Jurado/León 2-1 (18/21, 21/18, 15/11). The result gave Uruguay 160 points in the qualifying ranking.

Brazil is the current U21 World Champion in both branches in China 2017. In this season, the U21 World Championship will be held from June 18 to 23 in the Thai city of Udonthani.
